Mizunos + the best way to eat cupcakes

My Thursday morning started off with taking my car in for some repairs. What I thought was just some cosmetic damage (someone hit me in a parking lot) has turned into a much bigger ordeal and my poor baby Honda is going to in the shop for at least a couple weeks. Luckily my dad is living in Santa Barbara for the winter/spring and so I was able to borrow his car for the time being. Thanks dad!

Breakfast was some blueberries at my desk. Along with my usual cottage cheese and coffee of course. 🙂

For lunch we had pizza to celebrate our office’s 18 year anniversary. Who can turn down free pizza? I had a couple slices along with a salad from our cafeteria.

Someone brought in an obscene amount of Gigi’s cupcakes for the office to share. These are my absolute favorite cupcakes in the world and I couldn’t decide on a flavor. The trick is to find someone to split some with you so you can sample the different options. 🙂

I’ve been really struggling with getting out of bed for morning workouts. I’m not really sure why because I get plenty of sleep, but I think a lot of it is this freezing cold weather we’ve been having (12F today). It makes it extra difficult to leave my warm cozy bed! But I suppose it doesn’t really matter when we run as long as we are able to get it in, right?

I headed to the gym after work and did my run on the treadmill with my new Mizunos. I used Asics all through high school but since then I’ve been a Brooks girl. I love my Brooks Adrenalines but I thought it might not hurt to try another brand for comparison to figure out my best fit.

I met up with my cousin for some dinner after the gym. We split the chicken and waffles at Artisan 179 and a couple glasses of vino.

We also had a little bit too much fun with the snapchat.

What do you guys think? Should I get a septum piercing? 😉

Morning workouts + meal prep woes.

Finally got my butt out of bed for a morning run. I waaaaaay prefer running before work but it’s been rough getting back into that habit. I used to go to Orange Theory classes at 5 AM everyday and I have NO idea how I did that. Hopefully I can get this done a few more times so it can start to be come a habit again!

Banjo likes to hang out under me while I do my planks so that I can’t fail without crushing him. Dangerous game, buddy. Also, ignore my hair.

I’m totally geekin out over my new Skyrim calendar for my desk at work. I originally wanted the Game of Thrones one but 3/12 months featured people being brutally murdered so I went with my second choice to keep HR off my back.

Dinner was a healthy one – I’m trying to be better about cooking healthy meals during the week but I always go out and buy all this meat/fish/produce and then never feel like making any of it. I think the solution is to do some of that weekend meal prep you pinteresters are always talking about. Today I made baked parmesan tilapia, roasted asparagus, and some pureed cauliflower. It was pretty delicious if I do say so myself.


Also there was lots of leftovers so BOOM – meal prep for my weekend. I think I did that whole thing backwards but oh well.

Coloring books + free food + my new favorite shoes.

You know it’s gonna be a good day when it starts with a triple shot of espresso. 🙂 I tried the cinnamon almond milk macchiato at Starbucks and it was amazing. I spent the rest of the day feeling super overcaffeinated and awesome.

Lunch a bunch of randomness in the form of snacks which is my favorite form of anything. Those lil multigrain crackers from Trader Joes are deceptively delicious.

One of my coworkers has got us all into these adult coloring books so we have been having coloring sessions over the lunch hour. Like I needed any more reasons for people to think I am a child.

I finally got my eyebrows done after work – I go every month but by the last week they are always looking pretty crazy. I’m super envious of people with lighter eyebrows because having black eyebrows and pasty pasty skin is a real challenge. Plus I was cursed with the Egan caterpillar brows.

I got home, did a little cuddling with the Banjo, then did a quick 30 minute jog on the treadmill. Are these not the cutest shoes you’ve ever seen? They won’t be in regular rotation for running because I need shoes with more support, but I couldn’t resist using them this once. I think the’ll work great for strength days.

Dinner was a Panera veggie sandwich that was leftover from one of our vendor meetings at work (not pictured – my chips and cookie). Free food is my favorite food. Fun fact, one time I got to take home 2 full trays of catering from Cheesecake Factory after one of our corporate events. It was one of the best things that’s ever happened to me because my life is pretty dull.

Back to winter + the best potato soup.

I got super lucky and didn’t have to be anywhere until 9:30 this morning, because I had a meeting nearby and it didn’t really make sense to go to the office first. Whenever this happens I always think how much more I could get done in my life if I started work just an hour later.

I headed out for a run outdoors finally, since I was able to get a later start and let it lighten up a bit. It was about 40 degrees, so not bad at all for a March morning, and then about 20 minutes after I was done, this happened:

Cool.

Once I got back I made myself a big breakfast – 2 eggs over easy, toast, blueberries, and turkey sausage. And coffee of course. I haven’t yet perfected the art of yolk porn (like at all. like what even happened to my egg on the right), but whatever. They still taste good.

Then it was off to my meeting. I had to give a presentation which I was so nervous about. I’m getting better but public speaking has always been one of my biggest fears. Nothing to do about it but practice I guess. It went pretty well but I was more than happy to get out of there and grab some lunch.

We went to Waterstreet Brewery and I had the baked potato soup and the fish tacos. The tacos were decent but that was honestly the best potato soup I’ve ever had. Seriously, it was so flippin good. I’m coming back for it.

Then it was back to work for a few hours!

Dinner was leftover fish tacos and some wine and girl scout cookies with a friend. It was a little bit of a stressful day despite the late start and I felt was really happy to unwind.

Getting Back in the Groove + Trader Joes Haul

It’s always bittersweet coming back from vacation, but overall I’m usually pretty happy to get back to my routine, and my cat.

Also, can we talk about this hoodie for a sec? It came in the mail while I was gone. I don’t have much to say about it other than I think it’s funny and other people do not. Which means it’s sort of perfect, right?

Anyhoo, getting back to the office was a bit of a struggle, but still kind of nice to have my schedule back. I’m a structure kind of gal.

I grabbed (and accidentally burned) a whole grain bagel leftover from a morning meeting as my emergency breakfast. I usually keep yogurt or cottage cheese in the fridge at work but I ran out before Vail and hadn’t been to the grocery store yet.

For lunch I hit up the grocery store salad bar. I usually don’t really like salads but I’ve been craving them after all the junk I had in Vail. This one had romaine, spring mix, cucumbers, carrots, sunflower seeds, chicken, and blue cheese dressing.

I also had a couple of caramel delite cookies for dessert. (Do you guys call these Caramel Delites or Samoas???) This was actually my first year ever buying Girl Scout cookies. I don’t know why I thought it would be a good idea to order 3 boxes of these things.

On my way home I did some much needed grocery shopping – check out this Trader Joes haul. I’m really excited to try the new mixed nut butter.

I snacked on some carrots and hummus while I put the groceries away. I love these carrot chips. They’re so good with hummus and have replaced my usual pretzels and crackers.

I really hate working out after work but I couldn’t get myself out of bed this morning so it had to be done. I continued my Couch to 5K program on the treadmill. I can’t wait until it starts to stay light out later than 6 so I can run outside more often.

Another reason I hate working out at night is it means I usually don’t have the time or energy to cook. I just want to shower and eat something easy. I heated myself a Sweet Earth vegan curry burrito – I found this brand at Target and they’re all really good! The breakfast one is the best.

Then I settled in to catch up on my shows for the night and do some reading.

It felt like Christmas in February, I loved it so much.

There was a man skiing in a banana costume and I think that’s really great. I didn’t have my phone on the hill but I caught him walking by the condo and snapped a picture like a creeper.

I was less enthused about the skiing. I don’t have a ton of skiing experience. I’ve done my share of hills at home back in the day, but it’s been several years and the mountain was a lot steeper than I was used to. Which makes sense, being a mountain. I actually did enjoy it, I’m just not what you’d call an adrenaline junkie and I get nervous about breaking bones and such. I’m a huge baby.

I was much more enthusiastic about the brunch buffet at Tavern on the Square and my motha effin bacon blood mary. SO GOOD. It was pricey but worth it in my opinion.

Pretty much the only meals we ate out there were breakfast because we were trying to save money. We hit up Big Bear Bistro pretty much everyday and it was so good and affordable.

Vail has these gas “bonfires” placed throughout the village and they were so nice to sit by. They also had heated sidewalks. DiCaprio probably wouldn’t approve but it made me pretty happy.

More food. This was at the airport where we also polished off a bottle of wine because we were stuck there for several hours. I mean, what else are you going to do in that situation?

No workouts, unless you count skiing, which I do because I am SORE so it must have done something. We had such an amazing trip but I’m happy to be home, I like getting back to my routine. I’ll post a workout recap later this week!
